Thank you Geeker,

I'm also fascinated by the subject and read pretty much everything I can get my hands on about it.

I've read a biography of the individual in question, among those of many other notables in the field.

I thought Let it be in 5d had something to do with the Beatles!
We were always taught that the first four letters of 5 down meant So Be It, not Let it Be.
I found this crossword quite difficult but always benefit from accessing this blog although I rarely contribute.
Thanks all.

Just finished, could make excuse of late start but like you aircram I found it quite difficult and agree with you on meaning of amen and had same thought about Beatles!
Too many very clever clues to pick a COD , found some of parsing rather contrived.

Sorry, Brendan, didnā€™t see your reply re Bob M last week. And I still havenā€™t got 4D (& a good few others)

Hi Barry,

I'm happy I wasn't waiting in vain to see that your 'get up stand up' post was appreciatedšŸ˜‰

4d - 4 letter "setter" (regular and Guardian favourite" + 1 letter "setter" (self referential) - definition is "quantum whiz)

Very goo, Brendan.

I think 5A is a brilliant clue
