Thanks to jono and barryc for parsing of 16d - I was completely at sea with that one! I actually don't think it's a very good clue - too convoluted.

I also found some of this more tricky than usual. Took ages to get 11a, even though it wasn't hard really. Would definitely have been helpful to have realised, or even thought about, the usual rhyming pair!

Wasn't happy with the definition for 17d; far too vague, but the cluing was fair.

I think 27a was my COD - so clever! 12d made me smile.

I did wonder if there was going to be a thread at all today. Solved this in a reasonable time, as in under the hour I usually allow myself. Some nice clues. Who has not found themselves wandering 26a in the supermarket from time to time? I liked 27a and 11a made me think of Alice in Wonderland. Happy Sunday everyone.

Couldn't get 6d, 10a, 14d and 16d
Having looked up the answers I have no idea how you get 6d though I get the "they're expected bit" .
For 10a I did think about putting in the answer because of the multiple flights but didn't see how celebrated audibly worked and still don't.

Thanks both. I can't find any online dictionary that spells the historic celebration with a y rather than an i though I'm sure one will . Never heard that definition.
In 12d , I had thought for years that a guttersnipe was a type of bird that foraged in gutters -hadn't heard the real answer which I only got from the checkers.
