Roof, you will definitely know 23d, he's one of the most famous 16 amphibians ever:-)

4d - 4 letter "smile" + 1 letter "about" + 1 letter "goal in rugby" (the shape of the actual goal posts)

24d - is an anagram/'bananas' - this is a 16 you don't want to get angry:-)

6d - 3 letter gong" (think honours) goes around/'ringing' "out at first"

8d 2 letter "while" goes around 1 letter "special" and K - definition is "poses".

Hope that helps you make some headway.

Thanks Chris

I'd actually solved all the character clues by googling children's TV characters and spotting the 16 ones.

So, I've finished without fully understanding some of the answers like 13ac.

My LOI was 24d. My CODs are 26ac and 7d.

I hope we have Paul next week.

I picked 13a as COD as it took so long to see how it worked - you'll kick yourself - I did!

I hope not Paul - one of my least favourite setters; Picaroon is in my top3.

Thanks Chrise, the name for pest in 9a was new to me and like you kicked myself when I realised how 13a worked.
COD 10a

Agree about 13a. Some great misdirection.
