Ah, thanks Ginge, Collins does support it.
I believe the Guardian uses Chambers, Collins and Oxford as reference sources, so all is good :-)

3d “run through” as one might with a sword
8d bloomers in the usual crossword sense

There is one theme word per across clue, so 12 in all.

There’s an error on the online submission page by the way. There are two 25a clues printed, the first of which is an old clue from Genius 229 which should, I assume, be ignored

My first post here, hello all. I'm pretty sure I've completed this Genius, my first attempt at one, but I can't parse the wordplay for one answer, despite being pretty sure about the definition and answer. It's 17d, "Complaint, say, about large wind instrument".
I'm sure I'm missing something completely obvious! Can anyone clue me in?

20ac involves the theme word from the definition for 13ac. there's an obvious anagram in the wordplay which overlaps with that theme word.

23ac involves the theme word from the definition for 9ac. The definition for 23a is not a word I knew before, but it has an obvious end-part relating to medication.

gamma, it's 3 letters for a common complaint followed by the abbrev for the next word (reversed) + L(arge).

Although Chambers gives a different definition for the shorter word - and the longer word is a brass instrument, not a wind instrument (I think).
