A fun solve this month. I am still amazed at the lengths compilers go to.

I am constantly amazed at the lengths compilers expect us to go to!

Indeed, nice puzzle not too much a stretch though....

Nearly done but wondering if I might have a mistake somewhere ... only 20 to solve but all my swaps have been done entirely with the other 11 across clues which would imply 20 would swap with itself. That is surely not right, I assume?

I believe the word from 13 is put into 20, and the word from 20 is put into 24

Ah, I see my mistake - I had absentmindedly attributed the theme word entered in the grid in 24 back to 13. Clearly wasn't thinking and just saw that it was an actual word so I made that link thinking it was a cinch to do so!

Enjoyed this. Involved a lot of colouring in to keep track of where the various elements were coming from and going to.

One niggle re the word “wind” in 17d. Not sure this is accurate unless the answer is extended by another four letters. On its own it’s a different type of instrument.

Hi jono, I'm unaware of what dictionary is used as a reference source and while not in Chambers, Collins also gives the answer here as a variant of the brass instrument you mentioned.

Sorry, referred to rather than mentioned.
