I've held out all day and resisted visiting the boards but now I have to crave your help with the F word as I really have to start dinner.

Superb crossword though.

Answer is an anagram of 'soft tack'; definition is 'creatures going to market.'

Of course, JS. Many thanks. His anagrams are so good - so subtle in signalling the type of word play used in a clue.

Please! Whoever started this thread should have put the crossword number in the heading so that other people could find it! How come anagram server can't find anything for 'soft tack'?
Come on folks, you can't give Arau credit just because he makes his clues increasingly obscure! I thought this one was crap.

Sorry, folks. I dont rate Araucaria as a setter. The Times setters are far better and not so in love with themselves.

try anagrams here,Jeff

You find his clues "increasingly obscure" and Tonto feels he is in love with himself.

I think the old dog still has IT.

Absolutely AJT.

He can still raise a smile.
If a clue is obscure there will often be easy-ish clues that give some letters toward it.

I should also say that having a discussion about my favorite,or indeed any, crossword compiler makes me cringe a bit.

Mental press-ups is how i view xwords, maybe im mental!!

what do you think, Stan?
