teenieleek - I think you have made the same mistake I did initially - check your spelling of 19d - I think the 2nd letter should be "i" not "e". Does that make it better?

It qualifies some of the unclued words, as does 35d, for instance. This is clued in the preamble "sometimes in combination"

Ah, thanks SL. Interesting - I looked on Wikipedia and it didn't use quite the same words, which shook me slightly!
