The others are 1a 8d and 18ac. I was interested in the alternative meaning of 17d

Thanks.

I've been scratching around trying to find the 'buffalo'.

I wonder if it's pronounced in the same way.

Hmm, only just started on this. Very confused so far. Do the solutions that you put in actually make real words? I.e., does the theme refer to the first answer that you get or the ones that have been changed?

All 8 themed answers are treated in the same way. They do not make proper words. You will find by reading earlier psoting on this thread that they are fish, and you will also be directed to the coding used.

That's a relief. I'll see how I get on. Thanks.

Done apart from 7d. Don't think I've done anything wrong, but can't find a word that makes any sense.

I presume that you have Q as the first letter. The second letter is not U. Try looking near the beginning of the Qs in Chambers and you will find it.

I was in too much of a hurry. Name of swimmer was valid, but didn't quite match the clue. I had ignored the ex-PM. Thanks very much. Quite a good one I thought, maybe not quite as difficult as usual once the code was cracked. Again congrats on being a frontrunner! Don't know how that chap Ian does it so quickly every month!

Thank you Clevertask. He must be waiting, pen in hand, at midnight, I guess. A long time ago I had an email from the crossword editor to say that mine was second.

I did the same as you at first on 1ac. Strange names these fishes have.
