Could anyone give me a hint on 26across? I have all the unchecked letters but all that fits is centre-back!

Yes, not very interesting. I got all ten solutions before I actually parsed the theme word.
Only slight concern: I can't quite parse 26A.
However, main reason for this post: How is Islay pronounced? I have never heard it spoken, so is it like Island or like Islam? And gazetteers, unlike dictionaries, do not give pronunciations.

Thank you all for helping me almost finish. I didn't understand the instruction so couldn't see what the theme was. Once I got the theme I had no trouble getting the themed answers.

But I have one left., 15d They weren't liberals it turns out, dropping left. (9) I have B?A?R?T?S. Any hints would be appreciated.
