I suppose Ptolemy might have turned out a map like that...

I don’t really get the third instruction. I filled in the grid initially, so what further am I meant to do? I agree with other solvers that this was a pretty easy crossword.

Casanova, the first instruction causes you to erase 34 cells, the second instruction to colour them as per 21, so I assume the third is merely reminding you that the corners should also be coloured, thereby bringing the total of coloured cells to 40.

Thank you, Mersault. I didn’t think of that; that the six referred to cells. Anyway I had coloured them without understanding or following the instruction.

The third instruction may refer to the unclued 6 down

Casanova, it doesn’t. The second instruction covers those cells. The thIrd refers to the unclued entry at six (down), which must be entered to finish the puzzle, and otherwise would not be referred to anywhere in the preamble or instructions

Yes, that makes sense, Keepatit. I was overlooking that the man himself hadn't been mentioned...
Though the corners should be included with the other colouring, that is probably tacit from the preamble.

There was earlier question as to whether blue or green should be used. Probably blue is better since the area bounded might be represented by green.

I would be amazed if blue was not what was intended, Meursault, not least for the reason you mention.

I also assumed blue (the standard colouring on maps)
