I guess each grid contains all five letter words both across and down, and diagonally, but changing the numbers for letters seems to produce only garbage. Very frustrating.

That doesn't seem to make sense, crosswhit99. As all the digits except 7 appear in both grids, then their corresponding letters, except S (=7) also appear in both grids. With the grids I have, anyway!

The two numerically completed grids have 20 and 19 digits respectively (there is a 7 in the fourth row of the first grid), with 16 of these digits (and the letters they represent) being common to both grids. For example there are four As in each grid but different numbers of Es. This difference needs to be rebalanced so that both grids contain the same numbers of each letter.

They are all real words captain, though due to the constraint of the 5x5 grid some are rather unusual.

You may be right Crosswhit but I'm only interested in the numbers so I'll say goodbye now. Good luck to you all. It's been emotional.

I am not far into this yet, so haven't looked at any posts on here, but have hit a contradiction in my working out. I've back-tracked and can't see a flaw in the logic so I'd just like to confirm one or two things if I may.

Is D = 68 and P = 17, and are the 2nd-4th digits of 15a in the grid = 425?

If any of these is wrong, could you please just indicate which one(s) but not tell me what the correct answer should be?

Thanks

I don't have those values for D or P. I do have those digits in 15a.
However, I've just come up a slight problem with L, so don't take too much notice of me.

You should initially have three options for D and three different options for P - you need to look at the alternatives again Simon. Your 15a is correct :-)
