I didn't learn as many words this week as last! But I am puzzled with 39a - just can't see the wordplay here & also the ending for 10d the wordplay leads me to 'a' but the definition to 'c' - which is right? Help welcome.

To Chairman. Iwas puzzled by these as well. For 10 d you have an anagram of palace, plus i and o. If o is the round, you still have i unaccounted for. But Chambers does not give the possibility of a "c" ending.

For 39 ac. I take it that "it" is the ultimate, then a for answer, then la for see.
But not very satisfactory, I think

Thank you AJT. Very helpful & much appreciated.
The 'i' in 10D is confirmed by 26A but otherwise ...? Something to ponder.

To Chairman - unless it's being used for "in" - poetical use, as it were.
