Tomsdad, the words in the top and bottom rows will obviously form new words for the ones below and above. I played around with those. There's also information in the preamble that directly helps.

10 D is Meaningless!

Thanks Malone. Yes, that's right, if you drop the 'letters' there is only one possible order of the remaining ones.

I saw it fairly quickly and assumed everyone else would!

Thanks Maole,, yes I saw it quickly but sort of struggled with all the different things going on and connections in this puzzle - different meanigs of 'letters', the dropped and added 'a' s (first of April) and the literal clues in the preamble, plus the anagram in the title ! As an earlier contributor said, there's an awful lot going on....

Well I am afraid this bear of little brain can't find the little grey cells at all. Please put me out of my misery and help with top and bottom lines.....
