Glad I could help. I didn't look at this thread until I'd finished as I was enjoying the tussle!

Well, despite all the help given, I still can't get 28, 29 and 36 across.
Any more help?

Hi Nelson,
28 has the first four letters of GB's most famous 'topper' after the third letter (n).
29 is a longer than usual spelling of a small talkative bird with two letters from a canoeing 'topper' after the a
36 is La + it + h ( last letter of surname of another canoeing 'topper'

27 D is thematic, one containing 4 or more letters- a longer word, definition being a port in Holland. The thematic bit is at the beginning.

23. Isle - Muck is an isle, island. 'Lady' is the superfluous word in the clue, these are mentioned in the preamble.

21. The answer's simply hidden in the clue.

I can't remember who Cells related to, sorry.

PS. It's usually better to give the clues, so that people without the paper can help - but this was very thematic.
