28 is thematically affected. Think of 'a ..... of trumpets'. Sorry, I'm struggling for hints.
35 - a common two-letter abbrev for 'nurse, two letters for 'data processing' and I'm not sure how the last three letters work.

Yes, Architect is there.
28a has 9 etters in the def. inc. 4 from the surname of a topper (Doctor).
The mathematician is famous for a sequence of prime numbers.

Short of a few of the 15....where are these please?
"cells"... "circuity" no idea who either of these is

25d Frightened gumshoe made a mistake ...possibly ending in erred?

25 is totally normal - a three-letter abbreviation, followed by 'erred'.
