I don't quite get the shorter message. I have FILL IN THE BALT? That T comes from 29d, taking T away from target to give targe. And yet it seems as though it should be an L.

thanks orson ... now i can help you ... it is indeed an L.... murder with banks (not bLanks) fired leaves URDE which is/are points on a target....
banks being the outside letters

Missing the extra letters from 14a, 25a,34a please. My 2 messages don't quite make sense without those letters

Scarlett, re 34a gee means to move to the right, giving E as the extra letter.
N is correct taken from and/ie.

I'm still trying to make sense of the instructions

I am missing the B from "fill in the Balls" so must have an incorrect letter somewhere...
