I don't think the crossing paths is an issue. Pretty sure I've seen boards like that, although they might have been ones I made for the children! Still not sure about those rungs in bold in the original grid though. Maybe they are there as an extra clue?

This is the first time I have done the Listener before train tracks and the Jumbo cryptic. These puzzles are highly addictive. Hence also why I am finished before my usual average of Thursday (if at all). I intend to carry on sending them in until I win!

Likely you're right rrrobbo, they are the only unchecked cells, symmetric, and looking very much like a hint, but I think that's as far as it goes. I'm glad you're still enjoying the puzzle, in general I think standards have improved this year, after a lot of ranting about dumbing down last year !

No need for Ss to intersect, if the long one goes round in a big C shape.

13 is even letters in punt surrounded by a word for 'deal' all meaning acknowledge.
Enjoying crossword but still a way to go!

A single across clue is eluding me - 17a. Any nudges would be welcome!

I think the bars indicate non-words in those two columns. All the rest of the columns are filled with real words.

Smartie think of a lion and insert 'eg'. Hope tht helps . I could do with help on 15 and 19 across. You're right about the bars by the way.
