Hi Silly boy - 43 a the title is Striking - this is another word for striking as related to appearance.

Anyone still out there? Having trouble with uncrossed letters in 34a - assume Z
and 35a -- T ? What does the word mean?

Major brain lapse at 31a. Put DULCET in first because I confused it with 34a "sweet".

Finally SAW 20d. Couldn't put an "i" in there.
"Now I SEE," he said, J......LY! ha ha

OK, got 35a & the meaning, but could someone explain where the "eye" is?

Hi Zardoz - just seen your postings.
34 ac is an anagram of carol, and zap - for vitality -less the soft p

..and 35 ac is a word I hadn't encountered before - it's in Chambers, and it means strife. If you've got all of the other letters, you need only the centre, and as you haven't got Chambers I'll tell you that it's !t!

The "eye" is the first part of 43 ac - and you will find a clue to this in a posting earlier to Silly boy on this thread

Finally verified 34a & 35a. The "eye" in the latter is the TEC. Took a long time to SEE it. ;-)

That was fun, unlike puzzle 1959. Tho almost missed the "fish" again -- 9d.
