Hello, Elle,
I thought "lootable/convenience food" was a fine clue.
Well done, the setter!
Have you returned for another tussle with today's setter?
It is cold here this evening.

Hi, Rusty!
We had a nice walk earlier - meeting up with a couple of old friends whom we hadn't seen for while.
It is strangely mild here in contrast to the bitter cold we have been having recently.
Yes, I did take another look at the crossword.....but I know when to admit defeat!
And I wasn't enjoying today's puzzle anyway, even those clues I could do.
I may fare better with the next puzzle......
"After all, tomorrow is another day!"
I have been chatting on the phone.... I even missed my daily dose of "Eggheads"!

Hello, Elle!
Well, you are not like me if you admit defeat!
I relish the challenge.
But, no point in continuing if the enjoyment is not there.
It is only a pastime.
Take a day or two away from puzzles, and return refreshed!
Miss La Bamba has just left me.
She looked in for a wee while when she finished work.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, admittedly it is most unlike me to admit defeat.......!
Usually, I hate "giving in"!
Generally speaking, to mix all the metaphors , once I get the bit between my teeth , I am like a dog with a bone...and will not let go!
But in this particular context, the expression "flogging a dead horse" comes to mind!
It is the lack of enjoyment in this particular puzzle that has made me decide to quit while I am behind!
How nice to have Miss L-B call round after work!
Did you share your steakbakes with her?

Hello, Elle!
I think you are quite correct to bin the puzzle if you are not enjoying it.
It is not an exam you are sitting, but should be entertaining!
I think La Bamba's Dad was making a curry for her tea.
We just had a natter.
She suits her curly eyelashes!

Hi, Rusty!
I have actually managed one more of those elusive clues..........
8d: lockkeeper
So only four now on which I am giving up!
I have just watched the recording of "Eggheads"......
Would you believe there was a question about Bolton?
My friend has just cancelled on me for tomorrow's lunch....
She has pulled a muscle in her back and needs to see her chiropractor.
I may go to Croydon instead to look for some curtains........

Hello, Elle!
Yes, just give up!
I never knew a potato was an "aloo"?
I trust you got the Bolton question right, I hope?
I know that the late Nat Lofthouse played football for Bolton.
It was his only club, I think.
He was a fine player!
Is Croydon the place to go for curtains?
Have you someone to help you choose?

Hi, Rusty!
Now don't make me feel bad...I am only chickening out on four unanswered clues!
An aloo is a potato in Indian cuisine!
But you probably wouldn't have known that, as you do not like spicy food.
Yes, Nat Lofhouse played for Bolton Wanderers for his entire career.
There is a 9ft bronze statue of him!
It is net curtains that I am wanting.......
Yes, there is a good - relatively inexpensive - shop in Croydon that I want to visit.
The net curtains are for bedrooms, so I am not wishing to spend too much on them.
(My lounge curtains are far more expensive!)
My husband is coming with me........
The plan is to drive to the station and then get the tram.
We may go out to lunch!

Hello, Elle!
I did not put that very well.
Just forget today's puzzle and look forward to Friday's.
I did not know Nat had a statue.
Is it at the ground?
No, I have never heard of an "aloo".
I do not think I have said I do not like spicy food?
I prefer plain food and have only me to think about, so that's what I eat.
I have enough of a struggle understanding the Pine Cone menu without getting involved with aloos and spices!
Cheesy chips are exotic enough for me!

Good morning, Rusty!
Yet another damp day here.....very mild though.
Yes, I think Nat's statue is at the football stadium.
I am drinking coffee and eating an apple and some cheese....
Then I am going to change out of dog-walking gear, and go to Croydon in search of net curtains and venetian blinds (the latter for the kitchen).
Fingers crossed we find what we want!
I hope you have a good morning, and enjoy today's crossword!
Talk later.......
