Hi, Rusty!
I think it may be that I was just over protected rather being too young!
I do remember that my mother didn't approve of the television in its earlier days!
We went next door to watch the Queen's Coronation when I was a little kid.....and I had to watch Wimbledon on our neighbour's TV!
I was at secondary school before we had a television in our own home.
We had a local cinema, too, that did Saturday morning films - but I wasn't allowed to got to that!
You were lucky!
I was allowed to go to the local park to play tennis though....I did that almost every day!
Tennis was obviously my equivalent of your cycling!

Hello, Pigale!
Julie Andrews was great as Maria, wasn't she?
I saw "Anne of The Thousand Days" , too!
Genevieve Bujold played Anne Boleyn.
Wasn't it sad?

Hello, Elle,
Your mother had good values.
You were lucky.
And early TV was pretty dire, anyway.
You were much better off playing tennis!
I am surprised you had never heard of Pat O'Brien, though.
He was usually a priest, or a cop, in films.
He was a lifelong friend of Jimmy Cagney and Spencer Tracy.
I hope you have heard of Spencer Tracy!
I liked him, too.
I hear the wind rising outside.
Hope it does not last!

Good morning, Rusty!
Mild but foggy!
Not a particularly nice morning to be walking! Not that the dog minds!
Now...I have googled Pat O'Brien and have seen a photograph of him.
I do recognise his face.......if not his name!
Yes, of course I know Spencer Tracy!
I even know that he remained married to his wife, whilst he and Katharine Hepburn were together for many years!
Funnily enough, I watched them both, with Sidney Poitier, in "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" only a few weeks ago.
I love that film.
Right....I am shortly meeting a friend for coffee - and then it is "Ladies Wot Lunch"!
Are you up to anything?

Good morning, Elle,
Fine mild day here.
I had an idea you would know Pat O'Brien!
I forget who said this, but one top Hollywood person said that the best dancer in Hollywood was Jimmy Cagney.
Not Kelly or Astaire, but Cagney.
I was never very keen on Spencer Tracy.
I have been out and am home for the day.
Will watch the skiing practice runs from Val d'Isere with a warming Bovril!
Hope the lunch with the Ladies goes well!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
I am home again now.
Lunch went very well, thank you - good food and good company!
We are having a break now, though, until after Christmas.
I thought Spencer Tracy was lovely in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."
The way he worried through the situation, and then graciously capitulated in the end was brilliant.
And one of the best films in which I have seen Katharine Hepburn was "On Golden Pond" with Henry Fonda.
Did you ever see that?
How is your skiing going?

Hello, Elle!
You had a good day out!
No, I did not see those pictures.
I saw the "African Queen" though.
Was that Kate Hepburn?
I liked "Babe" very much, too.
I only watched a little bit of skiing.
I got side tracked by other things.
And had a bit of a walk.
Just a normalish day!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, Katharine Hepburn was in the "African Queen" with Humphrey Bogart.
Is "Babe " the film about the sheep -herding pig? I didn't see that.
I have just been looking at some photos that my daughter has sent from Berlin.
All looks very "glammed up" in readiness for Christmas!
I haven't been down to the village this week, so I am not sure whether or not our Christmas lights are up.
We usually have a big tree right in the centre.
I am sure it will be there!
I must pop down tomorrow and see.....
Are there any festivities near you?

Hello Elle and Rusty,

Sorry for late reply Elle, I've been out more or less all day (Hairdresser and shopping + post-office etc)

Yes, Julie Andrews was great, and Christopher Plummer rather
'dishy' !!! and what about the little children!

I also loved African Queen and there again have a DVD of it.
Also like Casablanca!

Your talking of an actor's voice that you liked reminds me of James Stewart - Oh boy, I loved his voice! Did you ever see the Glen Miller Story?

Hello, Pigale!
I have been out for most of the day, too!
Yes, I did see "The Glen Miller Story" - I like his music!
James Stewart was great in that.
Did you see "Harvey"?
James Stewart plays a wealthy drunk called Elwood P. Dowd, whose best friend is a six - foot, three-and-a-half-inch tall, invisible rabbit called Harvey.
Elwood's sister tries to get him committed to a mental home as she thinks he has gone insane.
I think the film was described as a comedy-drama, but it was so sad in parts, I was in tears.
James Stewart was wonderful.
One of his best films, I thought.
