Hey, Rusty!
Oh, I am not saying that I am not enjoying "Chesapeake".......I definitely am!
Only just not as much as "Centennial" ...I really took some of the Centennial characters to heart!
Yes, the battle was Mons.....
Problem getting scene of WWI battle in order (7)
summons = order (def)
Sum- problem
Mons - WWI battle.
I took ages trying to work "Somme" into the answer!
I even wondered if Mr R thought that "Somme" and "sum" were homophones?

Hello, Elle,
Nothing would surprise me with Mr R!
I was thinking Mons and Ancre, but Mons is much more widely known, though I thought it would be in the middle of the word.
It was a pity Michener killed off Elly Zahn so early in Centennial.
I really liked her! I went off rattlesnakes after that.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, as you know, Elly was one of my favourite characters.
I liked Levi, too.
(And Roufous!)
I was surprised that Elly's friend at the orphanage didn't reappear in the story?
Somehow I always expected her to materialise later on.
Maybe it was the letters that Elly wrote to her that fostered this thought?
Goodness, I'm tired!
It must be all the fresh air - and hunting the spectres!
I shall go and make a coffee..........

Good morning, Elle.
Fine cold day here!
No skiing for me to watch today!
Going to take it easy.
Yes, I had it in my head that Laura Lou came into the story later. The folks in Lancaster County would not know that Elly had died, out on the trail.
Anyway, you have more folk to meet on the Eastern Shore!
Miss O was at the Enchanted Forest near Pitlochry, last night. Said it was great!

Good morning, Rusty!
I am just back from the park!
We have the opposite to you weatherwise.......it is damp here but mild!
We are told we shall have some sunshine later.
I think I have heard of the Enchanted Forest in Pitlochry.
Isn't it a Son et lumière show?
I am not sure where Pitlochry is, though?
I have never been to a sound and light show - have you?
No, I have no sport to watch either.... I doubt I shall get to see much now that winter is virtually upon us.
A quiet day ahead, I think!
I have bought the paper.... John is away yet again!

Hello, Elle.
I do not know what Son et lumiere means?
The forest is lit up with coloured lighting.
Very pretty!
The young ones love it.
Pitlochry is a bit North of here.
Nice wee town, in a lovely part of Scotland.
Gets lots of tourists.
Great weather here today, but a fleece would not be a bad idea!

Hi, Rusty!
I don't know where today is going!
It is midday already! I have been very busy for one who said it was going to be a quiet relaxing day!
Son et lumière simply means sound and light.
(I hope! if I have this wrong, I am sure Pigale will kindly put me right!)
It is just the terminology used for this type of event, where a historic building or monument is illuminated by special lighting effects and music is played as background.
It sounds as though this is what is happening in Pitlochry? - I am sure it is indeed "enchanted"!
Speaking of fleeces, did you buy one from that online Regatta Outlet store?

Good Afternoon Elle/Rusty!

I don't know where the morning has gone either, but there again I did get up rather late - woke up and dropped off again!

Elle, you are absolutely correct in your explanation of Son et Lumiere - It can be a beautiful spectacle if well done, and the choice of music is of paramount importance since it can change the 'theme' given to the show.
I went to a few of these shows and it can be magic.

Weather a bit dull yet, despite promises of sun - we are supposed to have brilliant sunshine and 15C, but are far from this so far!
Quiet day at this end too.

Hi pigale
This was a clue from last week's Guardian Prize
Wine — how’s it going down the Champs Elysées? No comment! (4)

Am I right in thinking that a French person would think it unusually formal to include "Comment" in the question?

Hi ChrisE,

Without trying to solve the clue, my initial reaction is that in this instance 'comment' would be translated as 'commentaire', as opposed to 'comment' = why.

ie 'Pas de commentaire'.

What's your view?
