Completely nonplussed. I'd just like to add that Trevor's IRON would be acceptable from a golfing angle,as one often "drives" with an iron from the tee,under many circumstances.

Hi TJ.

I agree that you can 'tee off' using an 'iron' or a 'wood' or a 'driver'.

But ... I would have thought that only a driver or wood can really be used to 'drive' the golf ball (usually from the tee, but could be from the fairway or rough) as their clubheads are designed to work that way.

I suppose we could ask Tiger Woods to let us know as I gather he has some spare time at the moment and is probably doing lots of crosswords.

I hate to be pedantic here,but how about a No.1 iron,a club that nowadays is perhaps out of fashion.
Don't fancy contacting Tiger Woods at the present time as I think he is preoccupied with rather more pressing matters.

If 24 ac is presumed to be "howl", then 24 d could be "hash" - a symbol. The sub part would then be in 3 d - remains, and with the first letter unclued
