Does the word to be highlighted have only three letters? Thanks.

I was sure this puzzle was going to be on a rugby theme especially when I got the first four letters of 15 down. Still having problems with 3ac . If I take odd and even letters it makes no sense.

riversk, yes it is 3 letters.

patch49, 3ac is tricky. It's just the odd letters of the first three words (i.e. evenly barred), then an inserted extra letter, then the last letter of "fairly"

Sorry patch49, to be clearer, imagine the first three words run together as one, then remove the even letters

I've finished the grid and highlighted the word, but cannot make anything of the 12 circled letters. Any hints?

Form the WORD using only the "six more" letters that are *not* "the first letters of the unjumbled items"

Thanks, I've done it now. I thought I had to use all the 12 circled letters, I misunderstood the preamble.

Ambiguously worded, IMHO.
