Actually, I don't understand 1 AC either. Presumably it has to be NO GO. Can't see why though.

I don't understand 1ac either and have the same answer. I think "rank" is unqualified as in "rank amateur", i.e, "total amateur". I have -IR- for 33dn. and just the final S for 40ac. Any hints welcome.

Ah, giro for 33dn, which leaves me with 40ac and little idea what the introductory blurb means. (and the word to be entered).

Amphibian [vehicle] is one meaning of DUCK, as is Fabric. I'm unable to see the third, however. Coloured Tops? Why?

1 and 40 had me puzzled for a while too. 1Ac N.O. = Not out. There is also an extra O.

Thanks for the tips, Unclued. Now have a full grid but still a way to go.

I think the third "extra definition" is "avoid" in 36ac. Have now got the four "outcome answers", just looking for the six "jumbled" items so I can work out the word to be written at the bottom of the grid.

Apologies for butting in on a crossword that I know nothing about, but the amphibious vehicle is surely a DUKW rather than "duck"?
