Now I really AM intrigued. My solution is plural. Maybe it's one of those very rare ambiguities which a setter dreads :((

Gosh! The plot thickens - mine is definitely singular. Are we talking about the same clue? (the hand-guard one?)

Gosh!!!! I think I'll go and have a stiff drink. I've been a good chap today, the muse settled on my shoulder and I've set next week's 5 today. When ye were referring to #4, I was looking at #4's solution for next week and that IS commonplace.
