Thanks Malone. It's a long clue: "Beginning to suspect general intelligence keeps woman on bike - balance is achieved by it" (2 words). I have S-EN-CYCL- and assume the last letter is E. I also assume we have to r-eplace an x with a y, but at the moment I have neither!

The answer was Sheng cycle, a traditional Chinese medicine. Is it definitely a thematic answer?

Many thanks Malone. Being unable to find anything to fit, I'd convinced myself this was a thematic clue. It would have helped if the setter had told us how many there were!
