I am not buying a new Chambers if it does not have taghairm in it!
I think I have read somewhere that when a new edition comes out, some old, out of use words, are culled from the new one.

Taghairm is shown in Chambers 12th edition, betweem tagetes and tagine . So it mutton-thumper

how about "snudge" ?

Chris, thanks for the page references - I can't return the compliment as I don't know how you did it...but in my dictionary, under 'mutton' it goes from 'mutt'on-suet' straight to 'mutton dressed as lamb' - omitting 'mutt'on thumper'!!!!!!

no taghairm, either! goes from tagetes straight to tagine! (and I am sober!!)

If mutton-thumper IS between tagetes and tagine, it's no wonder that elle can't find it!

Why am I looking up 'snudge', Jazzy! yes, I do have it - to save in a miserly way; a mean stingy person!

dare i ask what mutton-thumper means? i thought it would be in the urban dictionary (actually, i hoped it was) but no luck.
