Rust, i'm pretty sure it is this site but it's hard pin down exactly when it happens. i remember some people trying to replicate it.
maybe it's a leftover piece of code that was brought in when admin first tried to stop people pretending to be somebody else.
i remember posting as (the sorely missed) Phillip using a capital i - which is why admin eventually got rid of all capital letters in user names.

I first noticed it weeks ago when folk were posting the word they were after.

Only the i would turn into an l.
Kenyatta and Malone have spotted it, too.

Sometimes my letter I becomes an I - it's just done it there as I typed 'i' for the first one! It doesn't always happen, but it can be very annoying if it's in the middle of a clue.

It's a pain if a poster posts their word, say,
b?i?k and it turns into b?l?k.
This has happened often.
I used to blame the poster!

I think admin. should know about the problem, as it is frustrating trying to solve a clue when you don't know whether it is I or L

same here but it seems to happen too often to be user error.
the only way to be sure is to copy/paste the character into google.
