I'm up against a brick wall here. I have the names of six of the unclued lights but can find no connection between them. Perhaps if you could help me there I will be able to figure out 1a. Thanks

The title of the crossword shows the link - Dumpynose is the PSEUDONYM of a setter. The unclued lights are all pseudonyms. 1 Across is Miss Read - an English writer.
