Thank you Scarlett. However I think I'm out of this as my Brewer is the Millennium Edition and I don't
intend to buy a new one. Mine has nothing to say on pseudonyms or nom de plumes. Can you please give me the answers to 1a and 42a so that I can put this to bed. Thanks. Also Georgie who?

1 A and 42 A are both female, both answers have two words. 1 A has 4,4 letters, 42 A has 5,5 letters.

Thanks Malone. Have you got the right Brewer's and if so does it help?

I got the answers and then checked Brewer's - so I don't think it's essential, Google might have been just as good.
For 42 A, most of the letters were filled in, from other answers, so it wasn't too difficult to get that one. 1 A was slightly trickier - it's NOT a first and second name, rather a title/designation and a name.

PS. I'm being slightly cryptic here, rather than just supplying the answers, as I thought you'd like to finish this off yourself.

farr - Georgie FAME - you're obviously not old enough to remember him - backing group the Blue Flames - sang Rosetta in1971.
