Hi mamya
As I mentioned earlier, the RHS went in easily (though I haven't fully parsed 11ac). The LHS, though.....!

Thanks, Mamya.
After I posted that, I did a bit more searching and found what you said (I think that ament/a derives from a term for a strap used to fling spears or something.)

Chris, with 11 ac I though that it may have been to do with a tale about a cricket (grasshopper?) and an ant, in French (la Cigale et la fourmi) and that if the ant eloped, it would not be with the grasshopper...and a Buck is a kind of antelope....perhaps?

I agree with twm - and it made me laugh, as did 2 down when I realised who the 'educationalist' was. (misguided? boring? dies? I guess Araucaria's not enamoured of him either!)

Ironically, I got the LHS first, and I'm still having problems on the right.

22A Auxilliaries do what the are supposed to (B_H_V_)
presumably 'behave' - but why 'auxilliaries'?

24A Break down to earth in an insincere way (H_L_O_L_)
pres. 'hollowly' but again why except definition?

Nice to have Araucaria back.

BE and HAVE are used as auxilliary verbs, I thought

Thanks, chrise, those were my last two.

Never heard of 'auxilliary verbs' - and I did A level English (a long time ago).

I'm stuck on RHS. Think 6d would be a great help.
