I've nearly finished and have the theme etc, but the couple of hints above to 9 across have now thrown me completely. Am I just being a bit dense? I currently have (for 9 ac) ??o?s - is that wrong?

Thanks.

Peter/Ixion - still scratching my head. Are we referring to medieval land rights here? Even if so, I don't get the reference to 30 d (clue or answer). Must eat more fish.

Having struggled on to the end, I just need a tip on the "palatable alternative", which I can't see at the moment. Has anyone unravelled that bit?

I suspect the preamble is slightly misleading here GK...the answer that the wordplay leads to is the ones that stays(because it couldn't begin with L)
