What a pleasantly delightful (tautology for Rosalind)surprise from what I considered a really tough week with some real contending pearlers.
Thanks Rambler for the phrase and the touching song from John Lennon.
Thanks very much to aristo, jws, Rosalind & greedy kite for voting for my clue, it's very much appreciated and I will return next week with an equally challenging word or phrase, when I get to sit back and let you all do the voting, much more relaxing than Clueless.
Have a great day everyone, let me know when it's a good time to post the SOLUTION to the JE

As for the JE , I've got a full grid but some tenuous answers require checking.

@THEA - Haven't read that one , but I did enjoy "The Third Mann" which was set in Venice and somebody died... or did he ?
