Deserving blame for playing cup and ball on base (8) I have culpable - ball and cup is the e from base as usually there is hint ie end of ect.

Come out and see say, regiment (6) E?E??? Thinking emerge but again not getting regiment

It gives e as an alternative for base in my crossword dictionary not sure why though!

e is the base of "natural" logarithms, much used in pure maths; most of us who know what alogarithm is are more familair with "base 10"
