Let's add fuel to the flame: I think it should be a colon rather than a semi-colon. In thie sentence, it's a qualiifying phrase - what couldn't she decide? What to have, etc. The same as in my sentence above - what is the fuel to add to the flame? etc. Capital letters only for proper nouns, and at the beginning of a sentence, In your example it is a qualifying phrase, not a sentence.

dear syzygy. PLEASE don't make us consider english grammar from a U.S. website. I have U.S. lawyer friends with whom I've been arguing for years about our grammatical differences. We all now happily agree to differ. Stick with posts above.. especially aristophanes. Nail on the head, in my opinion.

Aristo, Please explain how the 1st paragraph 6.68 in the Chicago site makes gramattical sense. The last sentence begins with 'Nor' without any relation to what's gone before. Oh god, I hate this, but please make me see sense...

Hello janebb,

I don't think I've heard anything from you before, are you a person who works in or moves in circles of others who are well educated in the English language?

If so, that's quite interesting

You're right. It certainly shouldn't begin with "nor".

just looked at 6.68 and was wondering how it should be written. Should it be a comma after the previous text and then nor (, nor)
