Stick with it Redmare - the process reveals itself in a flash. Fantastic PDM awaits.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have the definite answer for the woopies clue - didn't know that definition of the word. Still working on the other.

35a - think initial letters.
39a - check definition of pol and think of an example of one, plus what they did in the contest.

I still can't get 20d. Sigh.

I thought 'temperature stops' might indicate TS. Assuming the definition part is 'still developing'. Thought the answer might be something like stamened or staminal, but can't for the life of me see how that fits the wordplay. Also suspect I might have 30ac wrong as it clashes with 17d. This has been the toughest one for a while.

Only a suggestion redmare but I'd focus on solving 20d without considering the position of TAM too much - it could be a jumbly after all .... the answer is very much an everyday word.

I have both 17d and 20d as jumblies so 30a (machine) fits OK.Maybe I have my jumblies wrong although I have ten! Not decided which word has been misprinted in 20d. Is it shill, hold, choler or shops? Cannot see that the answer is staminal or stamened! Until I get 20d I'm afraid it's coming to an end!

redmare, see that s_pugh has confirmed that I am right that 20d is a jumbled one.
