Les, I was going to say, "You beat me to it," but ...

acre = 43,560 square feet
cu ft = 3,630 (divide above by 12)
lb = 226,613.5 (multiply by 62.43 lb per cu ft)
kg = 102,790.15

metric:
acre = 4,046.9 square metres
cu m = 40.469 (1 cm deep)
cu m = 102.79 (1 inch deep)
kg = 102,790 (cu m = 1000 kg)
lb = 226,613.2

Give or take, due to rounding. Also, THEA didn't mention the temperature.

Anyway, re the JE, I'm in.

THE WEIGHT OF WATER QUESTION

Sygy's answer is near enough right but am I alone in finding his calculation hard to follow. isn't this easier to grasp.....

cubic inch of water = 0.036127 lbs

acre = 43,560 sq ft X 144 = 6,272,640 sq ins

6272640 X 0.036127 = 226,611.66 lbs

May I try just 2?

What a huge weight of water, how amazing. Thames Valley finally lifted its hose pipe ban!

Thanks all,

Yes Bob's mum, i will check my emails later but you're certainly welcome, I will fill you in with all the details when I send you a reply.

RE: THEAMBLERS Water teaser.

I have to admit chaps that I had absolutely no idea what the answer was, I just plucked a figure out of the ether and typed it in, sort of knowing that if I did, then one of your superb minds would have to check it and put me right, thus we would all get to know the real answer without doing the brain ache work.
So, thanks to Syzzie and Phillip, I apologise guys for hoodwonking you into finding the answer.
A
It would be reaaly funny if you had in turn done the same and 'Double bluff hoodwinked' me back by doing the same... but I don't think you did.

Well worked out guys.

Cheers, Les40

PS: I've got to nip out for a short time, but will post again when the words start being sent out to all you excellent cluesmiths

Ok, I'm starting the emails now and will be sending in the order they appeared in post 1. It will take me an hour or so.
Just ping a message back to me to let me know you have received your words. I will pop back when I've finished sending so you will know by then if you have got the email or not.

Not heard anything from some of the ladies (HelenB, pastille, Wendy), but I have a couple of short words left in standby if they do.
