I am 100% happy with the Y in 'eggy' as Chambers shows Y as meaning hostel, linked with YMCA.

Thank you djawhufc. I'd written in "shcki", when I meant to put "shchi" in 26a. No wonder I couldn't get the down clue to work. Many thanks again.

Re. 29D "Florida river beastie" Fl is the abbreviation for Florida (rather than "F") and "ea" (popular Scrabble word!)is river or running water.
But - can't justify "Clang" for 32A "Crane's noise is a complex tone" - I see Chamber's defines it as the noise a crane makes but why "complex tone"?

I thought it was Klang- which is a complex sound in Chambers

It sounds like clang which is a crane's noise

Under klang, Chambers says "sometimes clang". More likely to be clang, I should think, as there isn't an indication of a homophone. It's "crane's noise", rather then perhaps, sounds like a crane's noise
