I think 3 is just E (excellent) DEC (Christmas time) facing KS (letters that produce Kris Kringle). The B isn't clued, of course.

I can just about go with the E, but KS are letters that produce Kris Kringle? Must be another Americanism that's passed me by.

E is certainly used for excellent (here at least, especially as a teacher's grade). I know- it seems lame, but K(')S (plural of K) must be taken as an abbreviation of Kris Kringle.

I got it the same as aristo E + Dec + K's (letters that produce [2xK plural K's])
23 was superb as was 29, many of them gave me a moment of penny dropping.
Thanks for the Tollbooth link peterm.

still can't see No 2 yet, but now think it doesn't look right for the only word I can see that fits in.

Let me check I have it right with you guys.
the letters i have starting from the 'B' in clue 2 and going clockwise are B S E V E R.
Is the third letter (E) correct or is it meant to be a 'D' which would give me the word I'm thinking of, but would throw out my answers to 1 & 5 which seem to be correct.

Oh, I see what you mean now. Presumably, Ks (K plural) as in the facing letters of Kris Kringle.

I know it says facing letters in the middle of the clue, but if you take the facing letters from the whole thing, then it works

(E)xcellent (DEC)ember [Christmas time] (K)ris (K)ingle K x 2 = plural = K's

It's a bit of a stinker, but that's how I saw it

The thing that got me thinking with the third letter 'E' being a 'D' would have given me 'ADVERBS' which could work I suppose.
Now you say I have the correct letters, now that's just sending me round the twist.

I need to have another good look at it
