Does the act of desiring a rare stamp by a philatelist define philately? I'd appreciate a reasoned opinion.

Don't know about defining, Rambler, but desiring a rare stamp certainly implies a philatelist. I buy rare stamps but I've never seen them and don't want to! I'm not a philatelist but an investor.

Sorry my vote is late - been a bit poorly this afternoon - I like anniec's at post 5 best. I'm off to Oslo now - philately gets you Norway, after all!
