Hi guys, I am trying to solve a local cryptic competition and thought you all might be able to help cause its driving me loopy. Its a secret sound but the clues that go along with it so far are:
*You need to take a break
*not sure on the wording on this one something to do with stealing/it being a steal
*you need to grasp it with both hands
*this secret sound definatly has legs

Do you have any examples of correctly answered clue...as this could help figure out how the compilers mind might be working.

The way the competition works is they record a random sound and you have to guess it but the longer it goes on they start giving clues. Past sounds have been anything from shutting the boot of a car to putting an ink cartridge in a pen, so pretty random

Do all the clues refer to the one sound?
Can you give a rough description of the sound you have heard .
eg shrill/sharp/short/loud/soft or whatever .

yep all refer to the same sound, i know its a long shot just thought someone may see a connection between the clues I have missed will add sound on if I can

Grasp with both hands could be nettle.

Again thinking of expressions...ideas have legs (sometimes)

Think you need to think simpler, normally a sound you hear round office or home
