I sometimes find the Guardian Crossword rather "smug" assuming that the solver is a fellow member of the chattering class.
Recently some answers assume a specialist knowledge where the solvers deductions cannot be verified by reference to a dictionary .An example from Saturday is "Malik".Possibly a reference to "Guilgud" or "Olivier" is acceptable, but I hardly think Art Malik is in such esteemed company.
