It's me again!Suddenly got all the rest myself,tho' not quite sure of reasoning behind,say,17a or 30d.Thank you all for your patience:it was fun the first time round,and I learned a lot!P.S.Is 4 hours excessive at my stage of the game?

17 Across - 'icing' = decoration, from 'dicing'which would be a chequered pattern without the d(diamonds)

And 30 Down is just Monica sounding like 'monicker', another word for 'nickname'.I don't think you took an excessive length of time - I'm not one of those who rattles off the answers in an hour!
