Thanks Cara! It's a shame I can't spell "behind" though.
A totally irrelevant thought just occured - mobile holiday accomodation for an Italian racing driver - Carafangio.
Sorry

Thanks, Bees. I can't afford it either, so we will just have to use the petrol visiting unsuspecting friends and relatives, naturally arriving just before meal times.

Best wishes.

Bees, it's a shame you can't spell accommodation also!

Caravaggio, I too am a regular contributor and I always have difficulty with 2 or 3. This week is no exception. Still stuck on 1D and 13D. With regard to 1D I got the three letter river (going through a University city?) But still stuck on the rest of the word. I am sure 13D is a TV thing which I have never heard of! I really liked 17D. I got the word long before I worked out the relevance to the clue, but then I am not much used to drinking pints of anything!!!

Old gal thoughts are still much with you.

Does anyone know why there has been no word from Karen for a while? She was such a regular contributor.

If I've got 17d right, It's a US cartoon from the 1960's. I think one of the characters will be distinctly muskie by now.

13d, not 17d. I'm going to hide now, before a Terry tries to terrify me.

Hi Mondrian,

Bees has given you a very strong hint for 13d and, as I have the advantage of having a copy of Jeff Evans' 'The Penguin TV Companion', I can tell you that the cartoon was shown on BBC1 in 1963 and 1964.

As far as 1d is concerned, yes, you're right with the river. Now suppose I was to add that the next part of the answer is a three-letter synonym for a period of time... You will quickly come to the conclusion that the third part of the answer is a three-letter synonym for 'guy'. Got it? I thought you might.

With best wishes,

Caravaggio

Good evening all,
With 1D the key is to focus on the word "shooter" and, as Caravaggio has already said, to think beyond a firearm/weapon.
Liked 22A, 23A and 13D - I remember it well!! Bees, I also remember hiding behind the sofa when watching the early Dr Who programmes.
Best wishes to all,
NIMROD
