Thanks Les and samak. I spent ages trying to get an anagram of harb negligence and I couldn't solve it because each time I wrote down a G - R - E - pattern, instead of
- R - E - . Aargh! And because of that, I couldn't get out of that corner where I was stuck.

Hmmmm. I can't see how it works either (for what it's worth).

Hmmm, indeed! The J is certainly right because it answers this clue:

Sluggish, wasting time aboard pleasure craft (7).
I've got JOINERY, which is certainly correct.

Here's another clue I haven't been able to figure out even though I have an answer:

Minister runs and exercises in spotless clothing (9).

These are the letters I had:
C - - - G - M - N

My answer is CLERGYMAN

It's a minister. But I couldn't make sense of the rest of the clue.

Finished now and I don't care! But this crossword has made me feel as if my poor brain has deserted me.

Thank you both. It looks obvious, now! I took R and E for runs and exercises and didn't see the GYM staring at me and gave up trying to make sense of it. Just assumed it was right.

Anyway, I am glad now I can put it to bed and concentrate on something else instead, like finding out about the election results. 'Night and thanks.
