ivres, surely

16 ac when not "ivre" refers to an example of the second word in the work, whose normal occupants might have been lazing sleepily by the Isis while their elite mates were sweating it out on the Thames a few weeks back.

I completely forgot about JUICED RIMER'S TURBID PEN, until I'd finished the solve, but it gives a "pen picture" of the producer, who had plenty of 27dns in his day. I thought(ignoring two accents) was a good clue to nationality of said creator.

43 Across (CLUE) is all about me at the moment as I'm still struggling with "All New", which certainly has nothing of 43 AC (SOLUTION) about it. However I remain 38Ac.

Yes, "ivres". The S mysteriously disappeared, though the underline was there.

Had never heard of the Oxford races before, but "torpid" was in my thesaurus under "boat". They sound anything but. You Brits are strange. ;-)

Didn't appreciate the subtlety of JUICED ... until you pointed it out. Great puzzle -- a PIECE (of) WORK.

Your last statement had me baffled, but I see there's a Listener puzzle with that title. Please post the link. Haven't found it yet. Recently started doing the Guardian Genius. Current one (#94) is about wines!

Don't get the "US sailor" part in 26A.

Cheers!

Rosie.

There are no unchecked Es in 19D or 31A.

No idea how you arrived at that. What letters do you have?

Thanks zardoz

I had 'ringed' the wrong letters on my worksheet.

All clear now and just have to locate the 5th word to highlight.
