Thanks, sudokulover and peterm - your discussion made me realise my 22 Across was wrong! I went for the apparently obvious answer, but wasn't completely happy with it - sudokulover's post made me see the right answer.

Forgot to say...I managed to solve the crossword without making any sense of 'juiced rimer's...' Would I have made it any easier for myself if I'd paid more attention to that part of the preamble?

It gave me the unchecked letters for 30dn, which was my final entry and was useful as a double-check for other unclued answers. I'm not sure I would have got it without that bit of the preamble.
