Hi Jools.

The MCMLX comes from the initial letters of the last 5 words of the clue: "... made classical music like xylophones". The only purpose of the word 'xylophones' in the clue is to provide the 'X'.

all high until later that decade ??

or maybe BUMPER (as in, 1960 was a bumper year) ??

yes I like Bumper - although can't quite tie it in with 'whole of 1960' I think it's the closest I've got to the clue so I'm going with that. Thanks Jim

Now, I also have - A year from a new order. so far I've got '1965' the year of the New Order in Indonesia. I'm still not convinced though?? Don't suppose you have any thought on that???

Wikipedia has .. "The New Order (Indonesian: Orde Baru) is the term coined by former Indonesian President Suharto to characterize his regime as he came to power in 1966 "
