Do you know The Book People? You'll find them on the web. At present they have a good offer on the pair. Do investigate!

Thanks AJT, that explains a lot. I have been disappointed with the Lists, in fact my old Newnes Crossword Dictionary is probably better but I will investigate Bradford's Dictionary.

I'm not asking for, not wanting, not expecting answers, but this my first attempt at the Spectator crossword and I'm finding it hard going. I've now got over half the answers, and would love some pointers with a couple of clues...

Was just about to post that I thought I'd got 15 Across -wasn't 100% sure, but your post confirmed my reasoning. Back to the grindstone now.

Now got 8 Down too - a word I'd thought of earlier, but felt then that I was making it up to suit my purpose!
