Hi Wendy

Re 8a It's a double meaning clue - in both cases it's a shortened version of the full word. Firstly a name for who sit on a bench at a football match. Secondly they travel underwater.

Good luck

Aha - got it now thanks. Must confess I'd never have got it without help and it was the travelling underwater which did it for me eventually. As for the first half of the clue, it probably doesn't help that I've never actually been to one of those events.

A great puzzle - thank you! That's 2 done now and I believe there's a 3rd somewhere but I haven't found where as yet.

Thanks Trevor, No. 3 safely printed off. I see it's Cinephile today in the FT who's my fave compiler of all time. I'll have to toss a coin to see which I do first!

You're dead right Trevor. They're one and the same person. He's a retired Vicar by the name of John Graham and he's either 84 or 85. His "themed" puzzles are wonderful but my favourites are the Alphabetic and Perimetrical puzzles. You have to solve the clues then fit the answers in the grid wherever you can.

Here's one from today's Cinephile in the FT for you:

Maybe Cinephile's debts raised - £25 to 1,000, about (9 letters)

I'm sure it's not at all PC to swear at a Man of the Cloth but believe me - it happens in our house! I did the one above, but still have 4 left unsolved.
